Quinoa and Mung Kichadi

Serves: 2

Ingredients : (Visit English – Tamil – Hindi translation/ஆங்கிலம்-தமிழ் மொழி பெயர்பு)

  • White Quinoa – 1 cup
  • Mung Lentil – 1/2 cup
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Curry leaves – 5
  • Lime juice – 1 tsp
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste

To Grind(into a fine paste):

  • Poppy seeds – 1 tsp
  • Brazil Nuts – 4 (soaked overnight)
  • Black Pepper – 1 tsp
  • Cilantro – 10 springs

Get Started

  • Dry roast quiona and mung dhal and soak overnight or for atleast 7 hrs.
  • Discard the water and keep it aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  • Once the seeds pop, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida and saute for few seconds.
  • Then add soaked quinoa and mung, turmeric powder, salt, masala paste, 5 cups water and mix well.
  • Let it come to a brisk boil.
  • Reduce the flame to low and cook it covered till quinoa and lentils turn mushy.
  • Switch off the flame and add lime juice before serving.

Tasty and healthy Quinoa and Mung kichadi is ready!

Enjoy it for breakfast or dinner.
