Okra Masoor Dhal

Choose Organic Ingredients whenever possible.

Serves: 2

Ingredients : (Visit English – Tamil – Hindi translation/ஆங்கிலம்-தமிழ் மொழி பெயர்பு)

  • Medium sized Okra – 20 (Cut into 1″ pieces)
  • Whole Masoor Dhal – 1/4 cup
  • Cilantro – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • Oil/Ghee – 2 tsp
  • Salt – to taste

Masala Paste:

  • Poppy seeds – 1 tsp (Soak in hot water for 30 mins)
  • Kasoori Methi/Dried Fenugreek leaves – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Clove – 1
  • Thai green chilli – 1 small
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Sweet tamarind – 1 (3″ piece soaked in warm water for 30 mins)

Okra Masoor Dhal Gravy

  • Grind the Masala ingredients into a fine paste.
  • Boil masoor dhal and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil/ghee in a pan and add Okra and cook till it turns soft but not mushy.
  • Add the boiled lentil, masala paste, salt, little water and mix well.
  • Let it cook covered in low flame till the raw smell leaves.
  • Stir occasionally but gently. Okra should not get mushy.
  • Remove from flame and garnish it with cilantro.

Healthy Okra Masoor Dhal is ready!

Enjoy it with Roti, Paratha or plain rice.
